Did you use twice the normal amount of liquid for the brown rice? White rice is 1 to 1 but brown is 2 to 1. At least that's what my steamer instructions say to do.

Oops. That may have been the issue. I think I just used 1-1. I think I'll do a trial batch tonight using 2-1 and see if that was what caused the rock hard rice. Thanks, Deb!

Wait a second, twice the amount? No wonder mine always tastes like cattle feed.

Brown rice should also be soaked for about 15 mins or so before cooking, too, for the least woody texture! Then the water:rice proportions are 2:1 in a steamer. In a stovetop pot, instructions are a little different... (let me know if you need 'em) Thanks for the props in your post today - I know you'll love the burgers!

I'm not sure if you need to do it with brown rice, but with white it really needs to be rinsed before being put in the steamer. Rinsing it in a colander before hand helps remove extra starch which helps keep it from sticking to the inside of the rice cooker.

even easier brown rice recipe: here super tasty, super easy and it works out great. also be advised that brown rice goes rancid quickly due to high oil/fat content in the rice - store it in the freezer.
